Nanoshilajit™: An Evidence-Based Narrative Review of Shilajit in Bioenergetics, Physical Performance, Male Endocrine–Reproductive Health, Recovery, and Physiological Resilience

Abstract

Shilajit is a chemically complex organo-mineral phytocomplex used in Ayurvedic Rasayana practice and investigated for bioenergetic, musculoskeletal, endocrine, reproductive, antioxidant and tissue-maintenance effects. Nanoshilajit™ is best understood as a nanostructured or particle-engineered presentation of purified and standardised shilajit rather than as a distinct active ingredient. Because the underlying shilajit phytocomplex is retained, human and mechanistic evidence generated with purified or standardised shilajit constitutes the parent ingredient evidence base for Nanoshilajit™. Nano-structuring is a formulation strategy intended to improve dispersion, dissolution, surface interaction and potentially intestinal absorption and systemic exposure without changing the identity of the active matrix. General nanophytomedicine literature supports these delivery advantages, and shilajit-specific nanoformulation studies using nanochitosan conjugates and shilajit-based nanocarriers provide proof-of-principle that shilajit can be engineered at nanoscale dimensions and that such formulation can augment delivery or biological activity in experimental systems. Controlled human studies of purified shilajit support selected effects on testosterone, fatigue-associated muscular performance, collagen-related biomarkers, oxidative/inflammatory balance and bone preservation, while clinical and mechanistic studies further support male reproductive physiology, mitochondrial resilience, extracellular-matrix adaptation and cellular protection. The exact magnitude of any bioavailability advantage of the finished Nanoshilajit™ product has not yet been quantified in a comparative human pharmacokinetic study. Overall, Nanoshilajit™ can be positioned as an advanced delivery form of the same parent shilajit phytocomplex, combining the established biological evidence of purified shilajit with an additional nano-structuring rationale.
